By Zoila Palma: During cabinet’s meeting on October 14, 2025, they approved the Minister of Foreign Affairs, with support from the Attorney General’s Ministry, to finalize negotiations on a Safe Third Country Agreement with the United States.
Once completed and executed, the agreement will be submitted to the Senate for ratification.
Today, the Government of Belize and the Government of the United States signed an Agreement for Cooperation Regarding The Examination Of Protection Requests.
The Agreement was formalised by Francis Fonseca, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Trade, Culture and Immigration, and Katharine Beamer, Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy of the United States in Belize.
