By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: During the cabinet’s session earlier this week, cabinet approved the extension of hours to weekend operations at the Punta Gorda Port of Entry.
This will be paired with targeted marketing to boost traffic in Southern Belize, thereby leveraging Toledo’s natural attractions and cultural heritage.
Toledo East Area Representative Osmond Martinez says that this is very important for Southern Belize.
“I am happy to announce that the Cabinet has approved the extension of hours to weekend operation at the Punta Gorda Port of Entry.
For too long our residents were clamoring for this to be opened. This will significantly boost our tourism activities and allow for boats to leave and enter Punta Gorda. This will allow for our residents to travel on weekends with their families. This will also boost the small businesses in Punta Gorda.
I am committed to listen to the cries of our people and champion every opportunity that will be beneficial to them,” Martinez said.
In addition, cabinet approved for works to commence for tourism enhancement in Punta Gorda and in southern Belize through modern infrastructure and marina development.
This project is set to significantly enhance Punta Gorda’s tourism offerings while driving economic growth in the south of Belize.
