By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: During its regular session on November 11, Cabinet approved significant amendments to the Disaster Preparedness and Response Act, expanding its scope to include disasters and emergencies resulting from outbreaks of animal or plant diseases or pests with major economic impacts.
This update aims to strengthen the country’s disaster response framework, ensuring that Belize is better prepared for a wider range of potential crises that could affect the agriculture and food security sectors.
In addition, Cabinet took the opportunity to mark the 4th anniversary of the People’s United Party (PUP) in office, expressing gratitude to the people of Belize for their continued support and trust.
The Government reaffirmed its commitment to nation-building and pledged to continue addressing the pressing issues of global inflation and rising living costs, which have significantly impacted citizens.
The Cabinet also emphasized its ongoing dedication to improving the welfare of all Belizeans through policy initiatives and economic stability.
Furthermore, Cabinet was briefed on the launch of the One and A Million Raffle by the Belize Government Lotteries Limited (BGLL), celebrating the first anniversary of the government’s intervention to rescue the national lottery.
The proceeds from the mega raffle will not only fund the expansion of the National Health Insurance (NHI) and other key social programs but also contribute to various charitable causes across Belize.
