By Zoila Palma:  The Cabinet has taken note of a significant policy shift by the Government of the United States, which will eliminate the longstanding de minimis duty-free exemption for low-value shipments.

The new Executive Order, titled “Suspending Duty-Free De Minimis Treatment for All Countries,” is scheduled to take effect today, August 29, 2025.

In response to the U.S. decision, the Belize Postal Service has announced that, effective Wednesday, August 27, 2025, it has suspended certain outbound shipments containing goods destined for the United States until further notice.

The suspension applies specifically to items impacted by the change in customs treatment under the new U.S. policy.

This development affects all postal operators worldwide and is expected to have implications for international e-commerce and small package exports.
