By Zoila Palma: The National Agriculture and Trade Show (NATS) 2026 officially rides into full swing with the 2nd annual cabalgata, a horseback parade that continues to be one of the most anticipated cultural highlights of the event.
The cabalgata brings together riders from across Belize, showcasing horsemanship, tradition, and rural heritage.
Former Minister of Agriculture and Founder of the Cabalgata idea as part of NATS festivities, Jose Abelardo Mai is participating in the 2026 edition of the Cabalgata. He will be unable to ride his horse today due to surgery but he will still be participating in the parade and his cowboy workers and colleagues will be riding in the parade.
The Ministry of Agriculture noted that the cabalgata serves as a tribute to Belize’s agricultural roots and the enduring connection between communities and livestock.
The event forms part of a broader effort to celebrate culture alongside innovation under this year’s theme of advancing climate-resilient agriculture.
