By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Belize Women’s National Team (BWNT) officially kicked off training on Tuesday, February 3, 2026 as preparations intensify for their next Concacaf W Qualifiers match — an away showdown against the Dominican Republic on February 28, 2026.

The start of camp marks the BWNT’s first collective session since December, when Belize endured a harsh introduction to the 2025/26 qualifying cycle. Their 9–0 loss to Haiti in Belmopan was part of a brutal opening round across the region, where several developing programs suffered double‑digit defeats against the hemisphere’s established powers.

In Group D alone, Haiti dominated Belize with 75% possession and 21 shots to Belize’s two, while Suriname edged Anguilla 3–1 in the group’s other match. Elsewhere, Jamaica crushed Dominica 18–0 and Mexico overwhelmed St Vincent and the Grenadines 14–0 — results that reflect the widening gap between top-tier women’s programs and emerging ones.

But for Belize, comparisons offer little comfort. The BWNT’s focus now is on regrouping, rebuilding confidence, and preparing for the three remaining fixtures that will define their qualifying campaign.

A New Phase Begins

This week’s opening training session signals a reset — a chance for coaches to reassess fitness, reinforce tactical structure, and integrate both returning players and new prospects. With just weeks before the trip to Santo Domingo, the emphasis will be on defensive organization, ball retention, and improving transitions — areas exposed in the Haiti match but also essential for competing against the Dominican Republic.

The FFB’s announcement of the training kickoff has already sparked renewed energy among supporters, many of whom continue to rally behind the team despite the difficult start.

What’s Ahead for Belize

Belize still has three matches to play in Group D:

  • Feb. 28, 2026 — Dominican Republic 🇩🇴 vs Belize 🇧🇿 (away)
  • Apr. 13, 2026 — Belize 🇧🇿 vs Anguilla 🇦🇮 (home, FFB Stadium)
  • Apr. 17, 2026 — Suriname 🇸🇷 vs Belize 🇧🇿 (away)

Only the group winners advance to the 2026 Concacaf W Championship — the gateway to the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil and the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.

A Steep Road, but the Journey Continues

Belize’s path remains challenging, but this week’s training kickoff represents the first step toward a stronger showing in the months ahead. The BWNT will be looking to tighten their structure, build resilience, and show progress as they continue representing Belize on the regional stage.

As the FFB put it: “Let’s go Belize.”
