New controlled prices for Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG, commonly known as ‘butane’) enter into effect on Friday.
The new price per gallon is up by $0.23 per gallon and retail prices throughout Belize will now be $5.42 per gallon in urban areas and $5.52 in rural areas. The Supplies Control Unit (SCU) in the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security and Enterprise announced on Friday that the new prices result primarily from an increase in the acquisition price of both butane and propane.
“Effective Friday December 29th, 2023 new controlled prices will be introduced for the sale of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG),” the Supplies Control Unit (SCU) said.
“This change now reflects the sale by wholesale volume and retail sale by volume in both urban and rural areas.”
The SCU said the prices established for imported LPG are based on the mixtures of 70:30 (Propane: Butane) as required by the Belize National Standard Specification for Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) BZS 21:2012.
The SCU said queries can be directed to the Supplies Control Unit at 828-5018, 828-5090 or via email desiree.montes@agriculture.gov.bz.
The price structure covers sales by wholesale volume as well as retail sales in both urban and rural regions of the country.
