By Breaking Belize News Staff: A Belize City businessman has been charged with sexual assault following a report made by a minor.
Fifty-one-year-old entrepreneur Richard Alexander Flowers appeared unrepresented on Wednesday morning in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court, where he was arraigned before Senior Magistrate Mannon Dennison in Court #6.
Flowers pleaded not guilty to a single charge of sexual assault.
The allegation is that on Monday, March 9, 2026, Flowers touched the chin of a female child under the age of 16—specifically a minor aged 12 years and six months—and that the contact was sexual in nature and made without her consent.
During the arraignment, Flowers attempted to give an explanation, but Senior Magistrate Dennison informed him that since he had pleaded not guilty, he was not required to provide an explanation at this stage. The magistrate advised that he would have the opportunity to present his defense when the matter proceeds to trial.
Bail was granted in the sum of $4,000 plus two sureties of $2,000 each.
As part of his bail conditions, Flowers must not interfere with or contact the virtual complainant or any prosecution witnesses. He is also required to remain at least 100 feet away from the complainant, report to the Raccoon Street Police Station every Friday between 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., and must not be arrested or charged with any similar offense while on bail.
Flowers’ next court appearance is scheduled for May 6, 2026.
