By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): Several people were injured following a serious road traffic accident early Wednesday morning along the George Price Highway.
Police say the collision occurred around 7:26 a.m. between miles 19 and 20 when a passenger bus traveling from Belmopan toward Belize City collided with a Toyota Hilux pickup coming from the opposite direction. Both vehicles sustained extensive front end damage and were forced onto the shoulders of the highway following the impact.
Initial investigations indicate that the pickup reportedly took a wide curve at high speed and crossed into the bus’s lane, striking the left side of the bus. The impact caused the bus to veer off the roadway.
The bus was carrying approximately 48 passengers at the time of the accident. The bus driver sustained an injury to his ankle, while the driver of the pickup and two passengers complained of chest pain and abrasions. All injured persons were issued medico legal forms, and three individuals were transported by ambulance to Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital where they were admitted for observation. Their conditions were reported as stable.
Police processed the scene, photographed the vehicles, and prepared a sketch plan. A Notice of Intended Prosecution was issued as investigations continue. Weather conditions at the time were rainy, and the road surface was wet and slippery.
