Burrell Boom man fined $1,200 for assaulting sister with machete

By Breaking Belize News Staff: Victor Aguillar Jr., a 46-year-old security guard from Burrell Boom Village, was convicted on Thursday in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court for assaulting his own sister with a machete. Appearing unrepresented before a Senior Magistrate in Court #6, Aguillar Jr. pleaded guilty to the charge of aggravated assault.

The incident unfolded when Aguillar’s sister returned home with her two children to encounter her brother Victor in the yard. Victor reportedly threw a pint bottle towards them before retrieving a pellet gun and two machetes from the house. He then entered her yard, brandishing a machete and making threatening gestures, causing her to fear for her life.

Acknowledging his guilt, Aguillar Jr. explained the longstanding family issue between him and his sister. The Senior Magistrate imposed a non-custodial sentence of a $1,200 fine, with an additional $5 court fee, payable by November 1. In default, Aguillar Jr. faces eight months in jail.
