By Breaking Belize News Staff: A Burrell Boom man took full responsibility for stolen construction materials found at his home, sparing his co-accused from a criminal conviction.

Warren Dawson, 55, and Sheldon Baptist, 47, both of Burrell Boom Village, were jointly charged with handling stolen goods after police discovered eight lengths of 1×8×12 lumber—valued property belonging to another man—at Dawson’s residence on Tuesday, July 22.

Appearing unrepresented before Magistrate Ludlow Black in Belize City Magistrate’s Court, Dawson pleaded guilty, explaining that the boards were found at his home, where he lives upstairs and Baptist lives downstairs. Baptist pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Taking into account Dawson’s admission and cooperation, Magistrate Black imposed a non-custodial sentence of a $300 fine plus $5 cost of court, due by August 29, 2025, or in default, three months’ imprisonment.

Following Dawson’s guilty plea, the prosecution withdrew the charge against Baptist, who was allowed to walk free.
