By Breaking Belize News Staff: A 60-year-old farmer from Burrell Boom Village is on remand at the Belize Central Prison after being charged with firearm and ammunition offenses.

Stephen Lionel Flowers, who appeared unrepresented before the Senior Magistrate in Belize City’s Court #2, faces charges of keeping a firearm and ammunition without a license. Police allege that on November 19, 2024, Flowers was found in possession of a 12-gauge shotgun with a black barrel and brown wooden stock, along with seven live rounds of ammunition.

According to the police report, officers encountered Flowers walking along the main road in Burrell Boom wearing camouflage pants and carrying a long black object. Upon being approached, he reportedly fled into nearby bushes, where he was apprehended. Police claim that Flowers admitted possession, stating, “Yuh caught meh boss. The rest of the shotgun in meh bag. Ah got it from my uncle who passed away years ago.”

Flowers pleaded “yes” when asked if he understood the charges but was denied bail due to the serious nature of the offenses. He is now awaiting a bail application at the High Court. Flowers has been remanded into custody until January 8, 2025.
