By Aaron Humes: Police are investigating a burglary at the Nauti Crab, a well-known seafood restaurant located on Boca del Rio Drive, San Pedro Town, Ambergris Caye, Belize District, after its owner reported a break-in that occurred late Tuesday night.
The business owner secured his business on the evening of February 17 around 10:15 PM. Upon returning the next morning at 10:15 AM, he discovered the entrance door ajar, with evidence of forced entry. A hasp and staple securing the door was broken, and a metal safe containing approximately $4,000 in cash, along with GST and credit card receipts, was missing.
Reviewed surveillance footage revealed a male suspect, dressed in dark clothing, gaining access to the property shortly after 11:00 PM. The individual disabled the interior camera before making off with the stolen items. The exterior camera did not capture the suspect leaving, leading investigators to believe the burglar took precautions to avoid detection.
The owner suspects a former employee whom he had recently fired. Efforts to locate him at his residence on Sea Grape Drive were unsuccessful.
No arrests have been made as the investigation continues.
