By Zoila Palma: Bulridge Ltd. has issued a formal response to comments aired on Channel 7 News Belize on December 8, 2025, disputing claims made about its operations in the Chiquibul Forest Reserve (CFR).
In its press release, the company said it was addressing “several erroneous points raised on 7 News Belize… regarding our work in the Chiquibul Forest Reserve (CFR),” and emphasized the need to present accurate information about its legal role and responsibilities.
The company noted that it has been involved in forest management in Belize since 1982 and operates under a Long-Term Forest License granted by the Government of Belize.
According to Bulridge, “the Government of Belize granted Bulridge a Long-Term Forest License (LTFL) based on our proven capacity to manage forest reserves responsibly.”
Under that license, the company is mandated to carry out sustainable forest management, biodiversity research, silviculture, and fire management, with all activities subject to approval by the Forest Department.
Bulridge also outlined the governance structure within the Maya Mountains Landscape, where multiple protected areas operate under different management arrangements.
The company explained that “Bulridge co-manages the Chiquibul Forest Reserve; Friends for Conservation and Development (FCD) co-manage the Chiquibul National Park; and the National Institute of Culture and History (NICH) manages the Caracol Archaeological Reserve.”
It stressed that activities conducted in any protected area must receive prior approval from the appropriate authorities and align with established management plans.
Bulridge raised concerns about activities conducted by FCD outside the Chiquibul National Park, arguing that coordination and compliance are essential to avoid duplication and conflict.
The company says that its own operations remain strictly within its jurisdiction, stating, “Unlike FCD, Bulridge invests and operates fully within its legally defined jurisdiction and fulfills all obligations under its agreement with the Government of Belize.”
Bulridge added that it contributes annually to the Consolidated Revenue Fund as required by national regulations.
Bulridge reaffirmed its support for collaboration in conservation and research, but cautioned against the spread of inaccurate information.
The company said, “The spreading of misinformation does not advance sustainable management and instead creates animosity and misunderstandings where none should exist,” adding that it was not contacted prior to the broadcast for comment.
Bulridge encouraged the public and stakeholders to seek clarification through the Belize Forest Department or the National Biodiversity Office for accurate guidance on protected area activities.
