By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The village of Bullet Tree Falls in the Cayo District on Friday inaugurated its newly rehabilitated community center, a modernized facility designed to support community gatherings, cultural activities, and development programs.
The project was completed through collaboration between the Belize Tourism Board (BTB), led by Minister of Tourism, Youth, Sports and Diaspora Relations Anthony Mahler, and Minister of Public Utilities, Energy, and Logistics and Area Representative for Cayo North Michel Chebat.
The BTB said renovation works began in April 2025 and concluded in December 2025. The upgrades included “the installation of new bathroom fixtures, upgraded windows and doors, electrical rewiring, new roofing, and freshly painted exterior and interior walls.”
In his keynote address, Anthony Mahler emphasized the national value of community‑center investments, highlighting the importance of “strengthening community infrastructure—and by extension the communities themselves—as part of Belize’s broader tourism and social development efforts.”
Michel Chebat underscored the center’s importance to residents and “extended his appreciation to Anthony Mahler for recognizing the importance of the center to the community and supporting its rehabilitation.”
Village Chairman Tai Wu welcomed the completion of the project, expressing “his gratitude that the village now has a space for community events and important celebrations.”
The ceremony featured a cultural presentation by the Benque Viejo del Carmen marimba band Los Hijos del West. Students from Bullet Tree Falls Seventh Day Adventist School led the national anthem, and students from Immaculate Conception R.C. School delivered the opening prayer.
In addition to hosting community programs and cultural engagement, the rehabilitated facility will also serve as “a designated hurricane shelter when needed.”
