By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): The dog tried to warn her. By the time a woman reached her window, a man was already wheeling her bicycle out of her yard, and fifteen minutes after she got home from a late shift, her ride was gone into the Guinea Grass night.

The Belize Police Department reports that the 31-year-old assistant cook pedalled home from work late on Sunday, July 5, 2026, arriving around midnight and parking the bicycle at her front door as always. At about 12:15 a.m., the yard dog started barking. Peering out, she spotted a man some twenty yards away, pushing her bicycle toward the road. She shouted at him. He glanced back, bolted, hopped on the bike, and rode off.

The woman told police the light was good enough to make him out clearly, and that he is no stranger, a young man she sees around the village regularly and knows well.

What happened next belongs in its own category. The very next evening, she reported, the man turned up at her home to declare that he was not the thief. The woman stood her ground, telling him she saw him plainly and knows exactly who he is. His response, according to her report, was to say he knew where the bike was and would bring it back. That was the last she heard of it, and the bicycle remains missing.

The bike in question is hard to miss: a purple 24-inch Hurricane Beach Cruiser, male frame, with the right handle wrapped in black tape, valued at $528. She has requested court action.

Police have two persons listed as wanted in the matter, and with no charges yet laid, their names remain unpublished for now.

Anyone in Guinea Grass who spots a purple beach cruiser that appeared out of nowhere this month is encouraged to contact the Guinea Grass Sub Station or Orange Walk police. Somebody in the village is riding it.
