By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): The Belize Communication Workers for Justice is celebrating what it calls a hard-fought victory after BTL agreed to pay severance in full to hundreds of former employees.
The agreement comes after weeks of public demonstrations and negotiations. During a lengthy meeting with BTL’s board, both sides reached an understanding that severance payments will not be staggered but paid in a lump sum.
BCWJ says the agreement covers 564 former workers, including those not represented by the group.
While acknowledging the bittersweet nature of the process, BCWJ representatives said the outcome demonstrates the power of collective action.
BTL is expected to finalize its response this week, with further meetings planned to conclude discussions. The estimated payout could exceed $20 million.
