By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Belize Tourism Board (BTB) convened a Tourism Security Law Enforcement Summit this week under the theme “Securing Belize: Law Enforcement Integration under the National Tourism Security Strategy 2025–2030.”
“The event provided a platform for aligning enforcement and regulatory bodies under the National Tourism Security Strategy,” the Belize Tourism Board said in a statement.
“The summit highlighted Belize’s proactive approach to strengthening tourism security through collaboration among law enforcement and partner agencies.”

Held in Belize City, the summit brought together a wide spectrum of enforcement and regulatory bodies, including the Belize Police Department, Belize Defence Force, Belize Coast Guard, Customs and Excise Department, Department of Civil Aviation, Belize Port Authority, and the National Institute of Culture and History. International and civil society partners such as the British High Commission, the British Army Training Support Unit Belize (BATSUB), and the Belize Tourism Industry Association (BTIA) also participated.

BTB said discussions centered on enhancing coordination across agencies to address emerging threats, protect cultural and natural assets, and ensure the safety of visitors and residents alike.
Key topics included:
Global tourism trends and their implications for Belize’s security landscape
Protection of cultural heritage sites and attractions
Maritime and territorial safety, including coastal surveillance and port security
The evolution of tourism from 2020 to present, with lessons learned from the pandemic era
By integrating law enforcement with tourism planning, the initiative aims to position Belize as a safe, welcoming destination for global travelers while preserving its unique cultural and environmental heritage.
