By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): A 40 year old man from San Lazaro Village lost his life following a motorcycle accident on the road leading to Yo Creek Village in the Orange Walk District.

Police say they received information at around 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, September 16, that a motionless man had been found beneath a motorcycle in a drain approximately one mile before reaching Yo Creek.

When officers arrived, they found the victim beneath a black dirt bike near the entrance of a culvert.

The man had sustained multiple injuries, including trauma to his face, a broken left forearm and severe injuries to his left leg.

Initial investigations suggest that sometime between Tuesday evening and early Wednesday morning, the motorcyclist was travelling from Yo Creek toward Orange Walk Town when he apparently swerved toward the right edge of the road.

Police believe he lost control of the motorcycle and collided with the culvert.

The deceased was identified as Bernardo Joel Melara, 40, a BSI employee from San Lazaro Village.

His body was transported to the Northern Regional Hospital, where he was officially pronounced dead at 10:30 a.m.

The motorcycle, a black Lifan, was impounded at the Orange Walk Police Station and is expected to undergo inspection.

Melara’s body remains at the morgue awaiting a post mortem examination as police continue their investigation.
