By Breaking Belize News Staff: A 25-year-old Salvadoran national accused of breaking into his own brother’s home in Lords Bank Village and stealing $540 in cash has been granted bail after pleading not guilty to burglary.
Gerson Rodrigo Ceren Preza appeared unrepresented before Senior Magistrate Mannon Dennison in Court #6 on Friday, where he was charged in connection with the alleged burglary of his brother’s home.
According to police, the incident occurred on Monday, October 5, when the brother left his Lords Bank residence secured around 5:21 p.m. Upon returning later that evening, he noticed that his front door appeared to have been tampered with.
A review of surveillance footage allegedly showed his younger brother, who lives nearby, entering the house while holding a knife and searching through a wallet. The brother subsequently discovered that $540 in cash was missing.
Police investigators later examined the residence and determined that entry had allegedly been gained by prying open the deadbolt lock on the wooden front door.
During a recorded police interview conducted in the presence of a Justice of the Peace, Gerson reportedly admitted to entering his brother’s home with a knife but denied stealing any money.
At Friday’s arraignment, Gerson attempted to explain his version of events, but Senior Magistrate Dennison advised him against making potentially incriminating statements after entering a not-guilty plea.
With no objection from the prosecution, bail was granted in the sum of $3,000 with one surety, which he met.
As conditions of bail, Gerson must provide a Belizean surety, refrain from contacting or interfering with his brother, and remain within Belize unless granted permission by the court. He must also report to the Ladyville Police Station every Friday between 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.
His next court appearance is scheduled for December 4, 2026.
