By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): U.S. President Donald Trump on Saturday claimed that American forces carried out a major operation in Venezuela that led to the capture and removal of President Nicolas Maduro.
Trump made the announcement in a post on Truth Social, saying Maduro and his wife were detained and taken out of the country after what he described as a coordinated effort involving U.S. authorities. He did not disclose operational details or confirm where Maduro was taken.
U.S.-based media outlet CBS News reported that the mission involved the U.S. Army’s Delta Force. When contacted, the Pentagon declined to respond and directed inquiries to the White House.
Venezuelan officials have not issued an official confirmation. However, a video published on Maduro’s verified Facebook page reported attacks in several regions, including Miranda, Aragua, and La Guaira. A translated version of the message accused the United States of attempting to seize Venezuela’s oil and mineral wealth.
The video also stated that a national emergency had been declared and that military and defense units were placed on alert throughout the country.
Speaking to the New York Times, Trump said the mission was carefully planned and described it as successful.
U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau said on social media platform X that Maduro would now be held accountable for alleged crimes.
Trump said he will address the situation during a news conference scheduled for 11:00 a.m. at his Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida.
