By Aaron Humes, Belmopan: Acting Commissioner of Police Bart Jones told reporters here this morning that as far as he knows there is no confirmation of any plans to institute a State of Emergency following recent violence.
However, the Department is ramping up intelligence led operations and activities designed to root out the criminal element.
Ag. Commissioner Jones said the Department continues to operate without “interference” from absent Commissioner Dr Richard Rosado, who is on leave, and it will work to address any slack in operations, while maintaining that nothing about those operations had fundamentally changed.
Jones said the criminals will face all of the Department’s wrath, and cautioned law-abiding citizens to expect minimal inconvenience with checkpoints and searches.
He told us that while gang activity is responsible for most of the ten murders recorded since Dr Rosado went on leave, the usual mix of factors can be attributed for this recent surge.
Much more to come.
