By Aaron Humes: Minister of Home Affairs Kareem Musa today confirmed that a troop of Belize Defence Force (BDF) and Coast Guard officers will be on the streets of Lake Independence along with police for a temporary period.
According to the Minister, there is a “perception” that the Special Patrol Unit (SPU) is too “familiar” to gangsters in the area to the point of playing favorites. They have been relocated elsewhere in the City as the Government gets to grips with escalating crime, with the recent victims of shootings including a two-year-old child hit in the back.
