By Aaron Humes: U.S. President Donald Trump has announced that a “complete and total ceasefire” between Israel and Iran will begin six hours from now U.S. time, via X.
President Trump reported that both countries will wind down and complete “final missions”, starting first with Iran and then Israel, ending the “12-day war” after 24 hours. “During each CEASEFIRE, the other side will remain PEACEFUL and RESPECTFUL.”
The President issued congratulations, pending successful cessation of hostilities, to each country, adding that their exchanges of missiles “could have gone on for years and destroyed the entire Middle East…”
The U.S. intervened on Sunday by attacking three major Iranian nuclear sites, demonstrating its determination that Iran be stopped from having the capacity to build a nuclear weapon, while Israel was retaliating for Iran’s alleged support of regional militants aiming to destroy it. Iran sent missiles into neighboring Iraq and Qatar in retaliation and reportedly threatened to close the Strait of Hormuz at the top of the Persian Gulf, which would have cut off oil supplies of about 20 percent from the world.
Trump has called for a peaceful resolution to the issue even as Israel prosecutes its continued war with Hamas, which Iran supports, in the Gaza Strip.
