By Aaron Humes: The Ministry of Education, Science and Technology has announced that the traditional Independence Day Uniform Parade in Belize City has been cancelled, due to adverse weather conditions.
Rain is expected throughout the weekend although conditions were expected to improve this afternoon before another bout of rain later tonight and early on Sunday morning. The country is under excessive rainfall watch and flood warnings in the center and south following a tropical wave crossing the country.
The official Independence Day ceremonies will proceed for the first time in years at the Battlefield Park downtown starting at 10:30 a.m., to be followed by the Independence Day Bash in the same area on Albert and Regent Streets.
Official ceremonies and Parades will proceed as planned for other municipalities pending updates from the Ministry and National Celebrations Commission.
