By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): Police have confirmed that 34-year-old Francisco Godoy, the man accused of killing his former partner and their young son in a horrific Orange Walk fire, has died from his injuries.
Godoy had been hospitalized at the Northern Regional Hospital under police watch since the arson attack that claimed the lives of 29-year-old Angelita Magaña and 6-year-old Tishan Magaña. He reportedly sustained severe burns while setting the blaze that engulfed Angelita’s home.
Investigations revealed that Godoy had recently been released from prison after serving time for assaulting Angelita. Despite her attempts to distance herself, including moving to a new home and trying to secure a restraining order, Godoy tracked her down. On the night of the tragedy, he allegedly broke into her home, doused the family with gasoline, and set them on fire.
Angelita and Tishan died in the inferno. Her 17-year-old daughter, Shadia, survived but remains in critical condition.
Godoy was also facing pending rape charges in connection with Angelita from an earlier incident. His death, while bringing an end to his criminal case, has reignited nationwide discussions on the urgent need for stronger domestic violence prevention measures in Belize.
