By Zoila Palma: Taiwan officially announced the full opening of its market to frozen white shrimp and other seafood products from Belize, marking a significant step in deepening economic ties between the two nations.
The move falls under the Taiwan-Belize Economic Cooperation Agreement (ECA), which has been in effect since January 2022 and continues to enhance bilateral trade and cooperation.
With Taiwan’s annual demand for white shrimp reaching 30,000 metric tons—far surpassing local production—Belizean seafood has now met Taiwan’s strict food safety standards.
Starting July 30, 2025, Belizean shrimp will enter Taiwan tariff-free.
Officials described the development as a mutually beneficial milestone, supporting both Taiwan’s food security and Belize’s export growth.
The opening is part of Taiwan’s “Comprehensive Diplomacy” policy and its “Prosperous Partnership Plan.”
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, along with key economic and health agencies, coordinated efforts to support the initiative.
A Belizean fisheries business delegation will visit Taiwan in August 2025 to promote white shrimp sales and explore smart aquaculture investments, further strengthening trade and shared development between the two countries.
