By Zoila Palma:  Breaking Belize News and Stem U Foundation honors Adrian Palma as a Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) model in Belize.

Palma has served as the Belize Youth Movement Cayo Central president and leader of the Youth Empowerment Alliance.

Palma, a proud Galen eagle recently participated in Galen University’s Youth Leadership Forum.

Now a lecturer in Economics at the University of Belize, Palma joined fellow young leaders in discussing national issues, civic responsibility, and the growing role of youth voices in shaping Belize’s future.

“Young people across Belize are standing up for what they believe in and are voicing their opinions,” Palma said.

Palma used the platform to call for increased youth participation in democratic decision-making, stressing that the challenges facing the country require fresh ideas and collective action.

He urged attendees not only to speak up but also to step up, arguing that the moment demands leadership rooted in unity and purpose. “It is time for us to wake up and take our seat at the decision-making table,” he told the gathering, noting rising concerns from crime to poverty to constitutional reform. “Let us unite. Let us advocate for real change.”

Palma’s passion for service began early through community initiatives in the Bishop Martin Neighbourhood Watch Program. He acknowledged that self-doubt initially kept him quiet despite his desire to contribute, but said that choosing courage transformed his path. “If there’s one thing I have learned in my life, it’s that when you want to see change in the world, you have to be brave enough to make the first step,” Palma explained.

That first step, he said, led him to organize movie nights, campfires, and donations of school supplies, clothing, and footballs to families across the twin towns.

Palma, a community activist at heart, also stepped forward in 2023 by placing his name on the ballot as a councillor candidate for San Ignacio and Santa Elena.

He emphasized that his motivation is rooted in service, community development, and youth empowerment.

Encouraging other young Belizeans to rise to the moment, he offered a message of hope and determination: “Why not a youth to lead the change? … My message to all youths who aspire to lead: Through God, all things are possible.”

When asked during the leadership forum whether he would consider running for office again, Palma responded with a confident “yes,” affirming that he is ready and willing to continue serving his community and country.
