By Aaron Humes: Early Sunday morning, a burglary and arson attempt occurred at the Island Supermarket, located in the Tres Cocos area of San Pedro Town, Ambergris Caye.
According to Police, officers arrived on the scene to find visible smoke rising from the supermarket. Fire department personnel also quickly responded and managed to extinguish the fire before it could cause extensive damage.
Preliminary investigations reveal that two male suspects forcibly entered the supermarket and attempted to set fire to an aisle within the store. Fortunately, their actions were thwarted, and the fire was contained promptly.
ASP Stacy Smith, Staff Officer of the Belize Police Department, reported during Monday’s press briefing, “What the investigation has disclosed so far is that two male persons with the use of force entered that building and they began to set a fire in one of the aisle of the supermarket. Video footages have been retrieved. They are being reviewed.”
Police investigations continue.
