By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The EZ Investments Dangriga Dream Ballers are staring down elimination as the BPBL Toucan Cup Finals shift to their home turf for Game 2 this Friday, September 12. After dropping Game 1 to the San Pedro Tiger Sharks, the Dream Ballers must defend the Russell ‘Chiste’ Garcia Auditorium with everything they’ve got—or watch the Tiger Sharks celebrate a championship sweep and punch their ticket to the BPBL Finals.
San Pedro’s opening 84–73 win was a masterclass in grit and control. Led by Jihad Wright’s near triple-double and Keon Rowland’s 14 points and 9 rebounds, the Tiger Sharks bullied the boards with 61 rebounds and racked up 26 fast break points. Despite a cold night from beyond the arc (just 15% from three), their physicality and tempo stifled Griga’s rhythm and left little room for recovery.
The Dream Ballers, powered by Kirk Smith Jr. and Daniel Conorque—each scoring 21 points—showed flashes of brilliance but couldn’t sustain momentum. Bench scoring and perimeter shooting fell short, and they trailed for much of the contest.
Now, it’s do-or-die. A win for San Pedro on Friday seals the series and sends them to the BPBL Finals for a shot at their first title of the newly rebranded league. But if Griga can rally at home, the series will head to a decisive Game 3 at the Belize City Civic Center on Sunday, September 14 at 4:00 pm.
To force that showdown, the Dream Ballers will need a surge from their supporting cast and sharper shooting across the board. The Tiger Sharks, meanwhile, will look to close the door with their depth and relentless defense.
