By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The San Pedro Tiger Sharks etched their name into Belizean basketball history on Saturday night, clinching the inaugural Belize Premier Basketball League (BPBL) Jaguar Cup with a 63–56 victory over the Cayo Western Ballaz at the Belize City Civic Center.
With the win, San Pedro swept the best-of-three Finals 2–0, displaying rebounding dominance and clutch execution to complete a perfect playoff run.
Tiger Sharks Seal the Deal
Led by Jihad Wright’s 18 points and Brian White’s rebounding mastery, the Tiger Sharks controlled the tempo and the paint from tip-off to final buzzer. Wright, who scored 15 in Game 1, elevated his performance with aggressive drives and timely finishes, while White hauled in 12 rebounds and added 8 points, anchoring San Pedro’s interior defense.
Devin Daly provided a scoring spark off the bench with 12 points and 6 rebounds, and Francis Arana orchestrated the offense with 7 points, 5 assists, and 4 steals in a composed floor general performance.
Despite shooting just 33.3% from the field and 27.3% from three-point range, San Pedro’s rebounding edge (53–42) and defensive intensity proved decisive.
