Boss sent employee on a sales run, but the pickup and cash ended up in Mexico

By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): An Orange Walk Town company is counting its losses after an employee sent out on a morning sales route failed to return with the company pickup or the cash he had collected, and immigration records confirm the man left Belize and entered Mexico that very day.

According to the Belize Police Department, a 50-year-old supervisor of a company operating in Orange Walk Town reported the matter on Thursday, August 6, 2026.

He told police that on Tuesday, August 4, at 8:00 a.m., an employee reported for duty at the company’s premises and was tasked to conduct sales within Orange Walk Town. The employee took the key and drove away in the company’s grey 2006 Nissan Frontier four-door pickup, valued at $20,000, approximately US$10,000, to commence his sales.

By about 6:30 p.m. that evening, the supervisor was informed by a colleague that the employee had not returned with either the company vehicle or the undisclosed amount of cash he had collected during the day. The supervisor further reported that company vehicles are for business use only, must be returned by 5:00 p.m. unless otherwise authorized, and are not permitted for personal use.

Police recorded a statement and circulated information to all border points, and the response settled the question of the man’s whereabouts: the northern border confirmed that the employee left Belize on August 4 and entered Mexico.

Several business places have been visited as part of the investigation, and a message for the man’s detention has been circulated to all police formations.

The border crossing places the case in increasingly familiar territory, joining a growing file of matters this season in which persons of interest have left the country as investigations opened, a pattern that tests the reach of Belizean officials and their cooperation with neighbouring states.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of the company vehicle is asked to contact the Orange Walk police.
