By Aaron Humes: Police are investigating the apparent death by shooting of Jahleel Westby, an 18-year-old fisherman from JR Street, Belize City, whose body was discovered in a bushy area near the Port of Belize Limited this morning, Friday, April 10.
Westby’s body was found by police around 8:00 a.m.; officers from the Precinct Two Crimes Investigation Branch discovered the victim lying face down, showing signs of apparent gunshot wounds.
According to initial reports, Westby had last been seen on the afternoon of Thursday, April 9, when he left home around 3:00 p.m. with a 16-year-old friend to go fishing. Concerned for his safety, Westby’s mother visited the Central American Boulevard Police Booth early this morning to report that he had not returned home.
The police swiftly initiated a search in the areas typically frequented by the duo while fishing, leading them to Westby’s body approximately a mile and a half behind the port.
Anyone with information regarding the case is urged to contact police to assist with the investigation.
