By Aaron Humes: Members of the Belize National Teachers’ Union (BNTU) have overwhelmingly voted to initiate a series of industrial actions, starting with a demonstration.

The voting results reveal the following planned phases of industrial action:

Phase 1: Demonstration
Phase 2: Two-Day National Shutdown
Phase 3: Strike

Following nationwide branch meetings held earlier today, it was announced that over 2,500 BNTU members participated in the voting process, emphasizing the collective voice and unity among educators across the country.

In a letter addressed to its members, BNTU National President Nadia Caliz expressed gratitude to all who took part in the election. “Your active involvement reflects your dedication to the future direction of our union and the changes you wish to see,” she stated.

Caliz highlighted the importance of unity as the BNTU moves forward, advocating for the rights and dignity of both teachers and the students they serve. “Together, we are building a stronger BNTU and a better Belize,” she affirmed.

Further details regarding the demonstration and subsequent phases of action will be shared with BNTU members in the coming days.
