By Zoila Palma: The Ministry of Home Affairs and New Growth Industries (NGI) is partnering with Blue Nutrients Belize Limited to advance Belize’s seaweed sector, positioning the company’s Belize Sea Moss brand as a premium, sustainable export.
The initiative was highlighted during the Belize Investment Summit 2025 in San Pedro, where NGI showcased seaweed as one of the country’s fastest-growing industries.
Minister of Home Affairs and New Growth Industries Kareem Musa, joined a panel discussion and commended Blue Nutrients for investing in the sector, noting its potential to drive innovation and economic growth.
According to Ginéé Neal, Acting Director of NGI, the collaboration is focused on developing value-added products that maximize the superfood qualities of sea moss.
Blue Nutrients is already working on a product line that includes nutraceuticals, capsules, powders, skincare items, and food supplements. The company is also piloting new innovations such as seaweed-charcoal blends for facial treatments and other cross-industry uses.
Neal added that the ministry’s strategy places emphasis on economic diversification, sustainability, and community benefits while supporting environmentally responsible industries.
