By Aaron Humes: Belize City and surrounding areas have witnessed one of the bloodiest 24-hour periods in recent history, with five fatalities and five individuals shot and rushed to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital (KHMH) for treatment.
Dating back to Thursday evening, five fatalities have been reported countrywide with at least five others injured.
The deceased are: Gaston Barrow, shot in Belize City and succumbed to injuries at KHMH; Moses Almendarez: Also shot in Belize City; Keon Cleland, stabbed to death on Rivero Street in Belize City, and an unnamed victim found deceased in Santa Cruz, Stann Creek District. They join Leonard Vasquez of Orange Walk and Marco Miranda of Los Lagos community outside Ladyville, Belize District.
Injured are Errol Tillett; Lincoln Patterson; Sean Reneau; an unnamed minor; Hance Card, shot alongside Gaston Barrow and undergoing treatment; and Edwardo Contreras, brutally chopped in Orange Walk. Other incidents have also been reported in Santa Elena Town and Belize City.
Police are working diligently to investigate these incidents and bring perpetrators to justice. The community is urged to remain vigilant and cooperate with law enforcement to prevent further violence.
