By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Cory Williams won the 34th Annual KREM New Year’s Day Cycling Classic edging Valvoline’s Oscar Quiroz and several other riders on Wednesday, January 1, 2025, on a wet Central American Boulevard in Belize City. Quiroz was second.
Under heavy rain, Williams, who was second in 2024, rode past Quiroz in the final stretch of the race just ahead of the finish line.
Mexican Miguel Ángel Cendales was third, Jyven Gonzalez fourth, and Canadian Jean-Michel Lachance fifth.
Williams, G-Flow’s Gonzalez and Derrick Chavarria, and Quiroz lead the race after a 90-mile ride from the Belize-Mexico border as they to Belize City approaching Belize. They were being chased by a group of riders, including Cendales and Lachance, who caught up with them.
