By Breaking Belize News Staff: A Belize City construction worker has been granted bail after being charged with theft for allegedly stealing a woman’s bicycle and $50 bill she gave him to buy food.

28-year-old Keron Miguel, a Wilson Street resident, appeared unrepresented before Magistrate Mannon Dennison in Court #6 on Thursday, where he was read a single charge of theft.

According to police, on Friday, October 3, 2025, a 35-year-old cook, gave Miguel her grey 24-inch male beach cruiser bicycle valued at $500 and $50 cash to go purchase food for her. However, Smith reported that Miguel never returned with her money, bicycle, or food.

Police detained Miguel on October 6, and he was formally charged. During his court appearance, Miguel initially pleaded guilty but explained that he never intended to steal the woman’s belongings. He claimed that rain stopped him from returning that day and that he later returned the bicycle and $30 of the $50 before his detention.

After hearing his explanation, Magistrate Dennison entered an equivocal plea of not guilty on Miguel’s behalf.

With no objection from the prosecution, Miguel was granted bail of $1,000 with one surety of the same amount. As part of his bail conditions, he must stay away from the complainant and remain at least 100 feet from her at all times.

Miguel is expected to return to court in November 2025.
