By Breaking Belize News Staff: A 28-year-old cook and maintenance worker at the Best Western Biltmore Plaza is behind bars after being charged in connection with a brazen armed robbery that occurred last month at Midtown Restaurant on Newtown Barracks.

Malique Warren Gentle, of a Goal Lane address in Belize City, was arraigned on Monday morning in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on a single charge of robbery. Allegations are that on March 15, 2025, while armed with a firearm, Gentle and an accomplice held up a Harpy’s Security guard, and stole a Glock 9mm pistol, serial number A3225, the property of Harpy’s Security Co. Ltd.

Gentle appeared unrepresented before a Senior Magistrate in Court #2, where he pleaded not guilty. Due to the serious nature of the offense, bail was denied, and he was remanded to the Belize Central Prison until his next court date set for May 30, 2025. The Magistrate advised Gentle that while bail is not available in the lower court at this time, he can apply to the High Court after 90 days on remand.

The incident unfolded shortly after 12:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 15, while Flowers was on duty at Midtown Restaurant. According to police, Flowers reported that he was approached by two men—one armed with what appeared to be a silver 9mm pistol. One man pointed the weapon at him while the other grabbed his service firearm from his waist before both suspects fled the scene in the direction of Lucca Restaurant.

Police investigations, which included reviewing surveillance footage, led to the identification of Gentle and another known suspect who remains at large. Gentle was detained on April 11, but during a caution statement in the presence of a Justice of the Peace, he refused to cooperate.

Harpy’s Security manager later confirmed the weapon stolen belonged to the company and provided proof of the firearm license.

Police continue to search for the second suspect in the armed robbery.
