By Rubén Morales Iglesias: This weekend, the Belize Chamber of Commerce and Industry is hosting a standout exhibition at the Marion Jones Sporting Complex, featuring the intricate wooden creations of Bert’s Wood Work—a local workshop blending cabinet-making tradition with artistic innovation.
Founded by Albert Lino and supported by longtime collaborators Tyrone Cox and Kyle Augustine, Bert’s Wood Work, located at 6622 Police Street in Belize City’s Lake Independence Area, has evolved from a cabinet-focused enterprise into a creative hub for handcrafted wooden models. Their display includes trucks, helicopters, airplanes, and military replicas, all made from Belizean hardwoods like mahogany, Santa María, and negrito.

From Cabinets to Craftsmanship
While the business began with functional cabinetry, Bert’s Cabinet Workshop, the exhibition reveals a deeper artistic pursuit. “This isn’t carving—it’s small wood work with details in it,” Cox explained, emphasizing the precision and detail that distinguish their models from traditional sculpture. The team sees their work as a legacy, passed down through generations and now reimagined for public appreciation.

A Community Effort
The Bert’s Cabinet Workshop and Bert’s Woodwork, located at 6622 Police Street, Belize City, have become a space for mentorship and youth engagement.
“We’re trying to make the business open up wider,” Cox told Breaking Belize News. “We’re stepping up—bringing our work to EXPO and inviting Belize to see what we’ve built.”
““We just started creating out of fun,” he added. “We said we need to do something with it and that’s when my friend (Albert Lino) started stepping up the place, because it’s his business, his shop. We just go in and help and get the skills and knowledge as well. But it’s something from genes that his father passed on to him and now he is the one that is carrying on the legacy in the family.”
“We also do carving on glass as well,” Cox said.
Visitors to the Marion Jones Sports Complex can explore the exhibit, meet the artists, and learn about the materials and techniques behind each piece. The team welcomes inquiries and visits, encouraging anyone interested to reach out via call or text before stopping by the workshop.
