By Breaking Belize News Staff: Lords Bank businessman Bernard Talbert, 51, made his second appearance in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday in connection with the murder of his brother-in-law, 52-year-old Stephen Henry Jorgenson. Talbert is accused of shooting and killing his sister’s husband during a domestic dispute in March 2024.

Talbert appeared before Magistrate Court #5, where his matter was further adjourned to January 13, 2026. On that date, he is expected to receive full disclosure. He was first arraigned on September 8, 2025, more than a year after the incident, due in part to his departure from Belize shortly after the killing. He was later extradited from the United States to face the murder charge.

Police reports indicate that on Sunday, March 3, 2024, around 8:45 p.m., officers responded to a report of a shooting at #7617 Rio Bravo Crescent in Belize City. Upon arrival, investigators found the lifeless body of Jorgenson lying face up inside the lower flat of the residence, dressed in boxers with a shirt placed on his chest. He was pronounced dead at the KHMH at 11:35 p.m.

Initial investigations revealed that Jorgenson had been inside the home with his common-law wife and children when they heard a knock. According to the wife, she opened a back door when a man she recognized as her brother, Bernard Talbert, entered the home and pushed her. An argument reportedly erupted over a land dispute, during which Talbert allegedly drew a firearm and pointed it toward her and the children.

She stated that she pushed the weapon toward the floor to divert it from their direction. At that moment, Jorgenson emerged from the bedroom. Talbert then reportedly turned the firearm toward him and fired a single shot, fatally wounding him before fleeing in a black vehicle.

A SOC technician recovered a 9mm AGUILA expended shell and blood samples from the scene.

Talbert remains on remand as he awaits disclosure and the continuation of court proceedings on January 13, 2026.
