By Aaron Humes: It was a record-setting ride for Bermuda national Gabriela Arnold in the 35th PUMA Women’s Cross Country Cycling Classic as she crossed the finish line alone at the Digi Park in Belize City on Sunday in three hours, three minutes and 15 seconds, shattering a 19-year-old course record.
Arnold outlasted a field of Belizean, Mexican and other regional competitors.
The ride from San Ignacio to Belize City was also the last for Kaya Cattouse, a three-time winner who finished third to conclude a glittering career.
While the juniors will, unusually, race after Easter on April 12, the ‘Big One’ takes place on Saturday, April 4, covering 142 miles from the Old Capital to the West and back.
