By Zoila Palma: Today, Mayor of Belmopan Pablo Cawich and Councilors Chris Enriquez and Lawrence Tush connected with Mayor Jayson Martinez of Lajas, Puerto Rico.
Lajas is a municipality with a population of 20,000, sharing similarities with Belmopan.
Mayor Martinez provided a tour of his municipality as they discussed common challenges such as infrastructure maintenance and development, climate change, sanitation, as well as opportunities for economic and urban development.
The mayors also discussed the potential for a sister city partnership between both cities emphasizing the importance of these relationships, which contribute to the strengthening of the foundation for future collaboration.
