By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Belmopan FC’s path to the Belmopan Championship is clear but challenging: if they want to lift the title in today’s PLB Pre‑Season Quadrangular, they will have to go through defending champions Verdes, the most consistent pre‑season performers in recent years.
The holiday event kicks off today, George Price Day, at 4:00 p.m. at the Isidoro Beaton Stadium, with $4,000 in cash prizes at stake. Napoles open the tournament against Wingz Police, while Belmopan FC then take on defending champions Verdes in the second match of the evening — a clash Belmopan must win if they hope to challenge for the Belmopan Championship. The tournament is organized by Marvin Ottley, with support from Kursha Pollard and Jarret Davis, and marks the third edition of the PLB’s pre‑season showcase.
The participating teams are:
- Verdes FC – defending champions
- Belmopan FC – hosts aiming to dethrone Verdes
- Napoles FC Belmopan
- Police United (Wingz FC) – Belmopan 1st Division invitee
The tournament continues a growing tradition. In 2024, Verdes edged Benque Viejo United 2–1 in the final of the pre‑season tournament at the Edmund Marshalleck Stadium, known as the Western Championship. In 2025, Verdes won again in the Belmopan Championship, which featured Port Layola along with Belmopan 1st Division sides Napoles and Club Atlético. Napoles have since moved up to the PLB while still maintaining a 1st Division team in the capital.

- $500 for 3rd place
