By Zoila Palma: Today, Mayor Pablo Cawich and the Belmopan City Council extended sincere greeting to the Chinese community in Belize and especially the Chinese residents in Belmopan on the occasion of the Chinese New Year 2026 – Year of the Horse.
“May this year bring you prosperity, success, and enduring happiness. We acknowledge and celebrate the invaluable contributions of the Chinese community to the cultural and social life of our city. Wishing you and your families good health, good fortune, and a year filled with progress and fulfillment,” the Belmopan City Council said.
The celebration of the Lunar New Year marks the start of a new zodiac cycle based on the Chinese lunar calendar. Each year, the date shifts within the Gregorian calendar.
Festivities include red decorations, elaborate meals, thorough cleaning of homes, and visiting family.
