Belmopan Bandits become Belmopan FC; Cruz Gamez buys out John Saldivar

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Former Football Federation of Belize Vice President Cruz Gamez has bought the Belmopan Bandits franchise from John Saldivar and is renaming the club from Bandits Sports to Belmopan Football Club (Belmopan FC).
Though the club posted a new logo on its social media platforms six minutes ahead of its press release on Saturday evening at 6:09 pm, announcing the ownership and name changes, the statement says the new logo will be unveiled soon. Judging by the letterhead on which the club’s statement was posted, it stands to reason that the club will also move away from red to green and yellow. This would be the club’s second colour change. Originally, the Belmopan Bandits used to wear blue, when the ownership was pro-People’s United Party. When Saldivar, a UDP stalwart, took over the club, the main color changed to red.
“It is an honor to assume stewardship of this iconic club,” Gamez said, according to the club’s statement on the change of ownership. Gamez is now the club’s new president.
“We are dedicated to fostering a culture of integrity, performance, and community engagement, ensuring that Belmopan FC remains a symbol of pride for our fans and the nation.”
Gamez is not new to the sport, having managed several successful youth teams in Cayo over the years. His involvement in the higher circles of the FFB should also help him guide Belmopan FC to perform as they did in their heyday when they won countless national titles.
Gamez has promised that he and his new management team will respect “the club’s dedication to excellence, fair play, and continuing its proud tradition of success both on and off the field.”
Belmopan FC now looks forward to the Premier League of Belize 2024-2025 Closing Championship, set to begin in January 2025. The new management has promised “a revitalized and competitive squad, poised to uphold the club’s legacy while embracing progress in Belizean football”.
“Fans are encouraged to remain engaged through Belmopan FC’s official social media platforms for updates, including the highly anticipated reveal of the new logo and other exciting announcements,” Belmopan FC said.
