By Zoila Palma: On July 17, 2026, Mayor Pablo Cawich of Belmopan, and Mayor Henry Flores of La Libertad Sur, El Salvador, officially signed a Sister-City Memorandum of Understanding, marking a new chapter of friendship and cooperation between our municipalities.
The Belmopan City Council noted that this partnership will promote collaboration in key areas including technology and smart-city initiatives, public safety, tourism, culture, sports, youth development, women’s empowerment, and the exchange of municipal knowledge and best practices.
Mayor Cawich was joined on the official visit by Deputy Mayor Christopher Enriquez, Councilor Florita Botes, and members of the Council’s management team.
“Through partnerships like these, we exchange ideas, build stronger institutions, and create new opportunities for our people,” the council said.
