By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Premier League of Belize (PLB) semifinals this Saturday, April 12, feature a battle between Belize’s two finest goalkeepers. The veteran Woodrow West, representing Verdes FC, and the formidable Charles Tillett, standing tall for Progresso FC, will face each other at the Edmund Marshalleck Stadium in Benque Viejo del Carmen. Both have proudly represented the Belize Men’s National Team, with West also having international experience playing in Honduras for Honduras Progreso.
Verdes FC, carrying a slim 1-0 lead from their first-leg victory, are keen to secure their spot in the PLB Closing Championship final. Krisean Lopez was the hero of their first encounter, netting a penalty in the 59th minute to seal the win at the People’s Stadium in Orange Walk. Despite a strong offensive push from Progresso FC, Verdes held firm defensively, showing their composure under pressure. Now, back on home turf, Verdes aim to put the series out of reach.
Progresso FC, however, will arrive determined to overturn the deficit. The team proved their resilience earlier in the regular season, holding Verdes to a 0-0 draw. To keep their championship hopes alive, Progresso will need to bring their best performance, with Tillett playing a crucial role in guarding the goal. This head-to-head battle between two exceptional goalkeepers will be one for the books.
Fans can expect an intense and competitive match as Progresso fights for survival.
Meanwhile, the other semifinal pits San Pedro Pirates against Port Loyola. Their second-leg clash is scheduled for Sunday, April 13, in Belize City, as both teams vie for the remaining spot in the championship final.
