Born on September 24, 1916, Ellis has witnessed and contributed to over a century of Belizean history, remaining a vibrant and active member of the community.
Earlier this month, Ellis was honored at the Tribute to Belizean Patriots for his lifelong contributions to the nation. Despite his remarkable age, Ellis continues to be in good health and high spirits, attributing his longevity to maintaining a simple and grounded lifestyle. “I eat the normal food,” he shared, underscoring that he follows no special diet or regimen.
In his younger years, Ellis’s passion for sports was undeniable. As a standout in cricket, he captained the Rovers cricket team in 1938 before joining Sussex. He later went on to serve as the first president of the Amateur Boxing Association, a role that showcased his leadership in the sports community. His contributions to cricket earned him a place in the Cricket Hall of Fame, and even after his retirement from active sports, Ellis remained a champion of local athletics and sports management.
Now residing independently in Belize City, Ellis continues to lead an active lifestyle, regularly playing dominoes three times a week. His daughter, Gloria Ellis, describes him as fiercely independent, managing his daily affairs with the same determination that has defined his long life.
Ellis’s incredible journey, spanning 108 years, is a testament to his resilience, dedication, and love for his community. As Belize’s oldest living man, he remains a cherished figure in the nation’s history and an inspiration to all who know him.
