By Rubén Morales Iglesias: 🇧🇿🇷🇼 Belize’s lone representative at the 2025 UCI World Road Championships Junior Men’s Road Race in Kigali, Rwanda, Keith Enwright Jr, may not have crossed the finish line, but his presence on the global stage marked a proud moment for Belizean cycling.

Held in the hilly capital of Rwanda, the 119.3-kilometer race tested 125 of the world’s top junior cyclists with relentless climbs, technical descents, and high-altitude conditions. Enwright Jr., competing against riders from powerhouse nations like France, Germany, and the United Kingdom, was among the 59 athletes out of 125 who did not finish (DNF), which reflects the race’s grueling nature.

🇧🇿 A Step Forward For Belizean Cycling
Enwright Jr.’s participation was historic: the first time Belize has fielded a rider in the Junior Road Race at the UCI World Championships. Though he did not complete the course, his qualification and presence in Kigali signal growing ambition and development within Belize’s cycling community.

🇬🇧 Britain’s Harry Hudson Takes Gold
The race was won by Great Britain’s Harry Hudson, who broke away in the final kilometers to claim victory in 2:55:19. France’s Johan Blanc and Poland’s Jan Jackowiak followed 16 seconds behind, rounding out the podium. Sixty-six riders finished the race, with time gaps stretching over 14 minutes — reflecting the punishing pace and terrain.

Derrick Chavarria also competed on Friday in the Under-23 Road Race at the UCI World Championships but didn’t finish.

Jyven Gonzalez will compete in the Men’s Elite Road Race on Sunday.

This year’s championship in Kigali marked the first time the UCI Worlds were held in Africa.

As the dust settles in Kigali, Keith Enwright Jr. will return home not with a medal, but with quit a bit of experience.
